Greetings to you, our praying friends!

We want to give you an update on several areas of ministry. In Kenya, things have been in crisis mode at Litein Hospital for the last month. There has been a nationwide strike for doctors at all government hospitals. Even emergency services have been stopped.  Mission Hospitals have remained open and Litein has been overrun with patients. The chapel and what was supposed to be a new ICU area has been turned into a patient ward, Patients even spill out into the hallways. Please pray for Litein, for God’s provision, peace, and  joy as they continue to serve and make His glory known during these difficult days. We pray that rivers of Living Water will flow out of the staff and leadership at Litein, glorifying God in the midst of this crisis.

In spite of the challenges, Danée continues to work closely with hospital leadership to move the new Rehabilitation Center forward. They have been working their way through the maze of processes and approvals required in Kenya for a new building project. They have finalized the process with the Hospital Board, Architect and Structural Engineer. They are almost through all the government approvals. Lord willing, by next week they will begin meeting with contractors. This process has taken much longer than anticipated, but it has been a great learning process. It has also been a source of encouragement for the hospital as they work through this difficult time.

A former patient and now good friend, Martha, a double amputee, came to the clinic with her family for some adjustments. She continues to do very well, but the family is facing some challenges as her husband has been out of work. Please pray for them.

Bolivia

While the clinic in Bolivia has become increasingly self-sustaining, I, Steve, still make trips there to continue training and to take donated prosthetic materials to the clinic. I am there right now. I arrived at the beginning of April, bringing two suitcases full of necessary materials. There is always a concern of getting through customs with the unique types of materials we bring for the clinic, but this was one of the easiest entries to date. Praise be to God for that! I will be here until the end of the month.

An extremely important aspect to this ministry is follow-up care with our patients. We genuinely care about the lives of each our patients and encourage them with an open-door policy. Many have become like family, stopping in whenever they need adjustments, a new socket, or just to say hello.

One of our patients, Eddie, has been in a couple of times recently for some modifications. He has shown amazing progress over the last year in adapting to his  leg that we made for him and had been expressing an interest in getting back to running for exercise as he had before his accident. I told him that I would look into finding him a running blade; a lightweight carbon-fiber blade with a curved design that is used in place of a traditional prosthetic foot, specifically for running. I knew the expense of buying one would be impractical, so you can imagine my surprise when a friend from the US said they had one that had been donated…what a blessing! Yes, God does care about our small details as well! I shared the good news with Eddie and he is excited for us to get to work making a new socket with the running blade attached, so stay tuned for updates on him!
