From Water Tanks to Walking Again — Big Updates from Litein!
We’re excited to share some wonderful progress on the new Hope in Motion Physiotherapy and Prosthetic Center here in Litein! (Did you catch the new name?!) Construction is moving quickly, with the team working late into the night to prepare for the dedication on September 13. In the meantime, we’ve been busy finding and purchasing equipment to get the center ready to serve patients.

Above is the future gym, which is one of the unique aspects of this project. It will be open to hospital staff and the community before and after hospital hours and on weekends. This is a key part of the department’s sustainability plan, and already the hospital is partnering with a local bank to provide gym memberships for its employees. With no other facility like this in Litein, we’re excited about the health and wellness opportunities it will bring.

Future reception and waiting area—oh, the space!

Future prosthetic clinic — look at all the space! You can’t see it, but Steve is doing a dance! 🙂

Steve and Dennis in the current space. It may have had small beginnings, but this clinic has had a huge impact!

In our last update, we shared about the need for water tanks to collect rainwater for our part of the building. Thanks to some generous donors, we were able to purchase eight 10,000-liter tanks! This will make a huge difference in addressing the water challenges here, and we are so grateful for this provision. Above are the tanks (3 of the 8) waiting to be installed.

We were also blessed to have Aaron Runk, a prosthetist from the U.S. who first came about a year and a half ago, return for two weeks. He was an incredible encouragement to the team, seeing patients and sharing his expertise.
One powerful example of transformation came during Aaron’s recent visit. He and Dennis, our local prosthetist, worked with an 8-year-old girl who had two prosthetic legs but had not been walking with them. After adjusting her legs and fitting her with new specialty feet called Sidekicks, she gained the ability and confidence to walk. Seeing her take steps again was a moment of joy for her family and a reminder of why this work matters so deeply. As she get’s used to these new legs, she will slowly move to more standard feet and prosthetic legs.
We’re also thankful to share that the Hope Fund continues to grow. Through this fund, about 70 children with cerebral palsy are currently receiving care. The impact has been life-changing—not only for the children but also for their parents. Your support makes a huge difference, please consider supporting this fund.

On a personal note, we would appreciate your prayers for our family. Shortly after arriving back in Kenya, Steve came down with a severe case of food poisoning, and the same night Danee developed a painful toothache that required an emergency root canal in Nairobi. Thankfully, we have both recovered. Remi is doing great, and we are grateful for the Lord’s protection and for your continued prayers for our health and ministry.
